A backlink checker, here, is a way to confirm a URL is live and to explain what a referring-domain review actually is. Worldwide Backlinks will not print a fake “412 referring domains” row because a free widget guessed. Licensed indexes (we use DataForSEO on paid link audits) cost money and still need a human to bucket sitewide junk versus editorial. Paste a URL. You get status and title. What a real backlink check has to include
Referring domains, not raw backlink counts that triple-count sitewide footers. Followed vs sponsored. Language. Whether the host is a publisher we would still pitch. Spam markers. That is audit work — quoted.
A browser toolbar that flashes “backlinks: 8,400” is usually counting URLs, not domains, and often mixing historical with live. We will not reproduce that theatre. Example (labeled): a footer farm can out-count a newspaper on raw links and still fail QC.
