What local backlinks are when they are not a citation dump
A local backlink sits in a context a nearby searcher would recognise: a city news site, a chamber or association that still has members, a neighbourhood blog with traffic, a relevant industry listing that ranks for “[service] in [city].” The page you want to rank is usually a location URL or a GBP-backed service page, not a nationwide homepage. National guest posting services can still help a brand, but they do not replace consistent NAP and locally relevant referring domains.
Google Business Profile is not a backlink product we sell. We will not log into your GBP, post fake Q&A, or buy map-pack hacks. If the profile is a mess, say so — we will still only quote links and listings, not a Maps miracle. Citations (name, address, phone) matter when they are accurate and on properties people use. They do not matter as a 500-row spreadsheet of zombie directories from 2012. That blast product is how local profiles collect spam.
Australia is home turf. Richmond HQ means we can talk about Australian local publishers and directories without pretending a US citation vendor covers Melbourne. US and UK local work is possible, but the brief must name the city. USA guest posts and UK guest posts are national-English editorial. This page is the location-bound brief. International cities in German or Japanese use the international desk plus local listings quoted separately.
Pricing is mixed on purpose. Local editorial on a real city publication uses English GP ($125–$350) or international GP if the language is not English. Directory and association listings are Enquire Now — same QC habit, no fake DR grid. DataForSEO still scans hosts. Indexing is submitted on live URLs. If a listing or article is removed, we replace it. Founded 2022, 100% manual outreach, 15+ languages, 40+ countries. We do not invent a “91% local pack win rate.”
Who should use local SEO backlinks instead of national guest posts
Service-area businesses
Trades, clinics, law, hospitality — pages that need the city in the query, not a thought-leadership DR50.
Multi-location brands
Each location is a brief. We will not spray the same article at every suburb and call it local.
Agencies with local retainers
White-label the report. Keep national GP and local listings as separate line items so the client sees why the mix exists.
How a local link brief runs
01
City, NAP, and the URL that should rank
One location per brief unless you sequence them. Wrong address on the site is your problem to fix before we pitch a chamber.
02
Split editorial vs listings
Local news and niche city blogs go on guest-post or niche-edit rates. Directories and associations are quoted. We will not hide a blast inside “local PR.”
03
QC the host page, not just the domain
A city directory with 10,000 outbound links on one URL is still junk. DataForSEO plus a human look at the listing page.
04
Live URL, index, replace
You get the live link or listing. If it is pulled, we replace it. Editorial TAT typical two weeks; listings follow the directory’s queue, honestly reported.
What a local campaign can include
- 01
Local editorial on English GP rates when the host is a real publication
- 02
Quoted directory / association listings — no 500-site blast
- 03
Manual outreach, not a citation software login
- 04
DataForSEO QC on editorial hosts
- 05
Live URL reporting
- 06
Indexing submitted on live URLs
- 07
Replacement if the link or listing is removed
- 08
White-label reporting if you are an agency
Local backlinks vs citations vs GBP — keep the jobs separate
Citations support entity consistency. Editorial local links support the page in a way a chamber listing does not. GBP is a Google product you control. Mixing all three into one “local SEO backlinks package” is how vendors hide junk. We would rather quote two lines — editorial and listings — than sell a bundle that is 90% spam directories.
Australian directories and local publishers are a genuine advantage of an AU desk. If the city is Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or a regional centre we can actually name, say so. US local work needs the city and state. UK local work needs the town, not “England.”
